Adventures In Southland - Episode 2
Fresh from the house move and new addition to the family it seemed somewhat appropriate to bugger off for a week away with work! The upside of this being that once again, one could make very fleeting visits to a couple of tree fern hot spots in the Catlins on the South Island's east coast.
So let's get on with it and start here at Matai Falls with a very impressive Dicksonia squarrosa.
The falls themselves - very impressive indeed. The Catlins certainly does not fail when it comes to magical little spots like this.
Although not brimming with tree ferns in numbers, this spot was all about quantity rather than quality and the forest was extremely dense. This 30 footer is making the most of a gap in the canopy.
